Title: What is going on with Amazon's book loading back end?
Post by: TimothyEllis on June 22, 2022, 01:59:23 PM
I uploaded 2 pre-orders last night. And did a re-submission of a book 1.

All 3 took way longer than normal to be processed.

Now, more than 12 hours later, neither of the 2 new books have covers showing. The covers are showing on the dashboard, so the loaded up ok. Just not on the product pages yet.

That's really slow, even by Amazon standards.

Anyone know what's going on?

I changed a price today and it went through in less than 2 hours.

And a couple of days ago i changed the covers for an entire series none took more than 4-6 hours.

You might be glitching?

So maybe I should resubmit them?

Or a ticket. Though tickets sometimes feel like a waste of time.

It's more likely you need to refresh your page from the cache.

No, the series pages updated but the main image did not. So not a cache issue.

Update: Finally put in a ticket, and they came back with what problem? When I checked, they were now there.

So seems to be a case of extremely slow page building. Then again, everything else about the submissions was slow as well.

Made me wonder if some low content spammer was hammering the upload process.

FWIW - I updated a print version yesterday and I estimate it required 3-4x the normal time to process.

That sounds about right.

How long does it usually take?

How long does it usually take?

Usually three to ten minutes, maybe a little longer.  Yesterday it was well over twenty minutes. (Now, I wish I had timed it more closely.)

Over the last three days I have noticed extreme delays in a scattered number of web sites. A refresh does not seem to fix the problem. In a couple of cases, I left the page open and it was still churning an hour later. Other sites loaded normally.

Cloudflare had an outage earlier this week that affected a large number of websites.
