The real trick to is see if there's follow through to sales. People will download freebies, likely never read them, and never actually buy anything.

But, that's a higher number of downloads than I've seen in a while, so that's awesome. Hard to get so many these days.

I do have some permafree wide books but now I concentrate on free promos for KU books because you get page reads and if you promote the freebies well the reads can explode. This year I will be alternating KU free days and doing one backlist book a month. I have a huge backlist and heard others do free promos monthly so I figure it will bring my catalogue a lot of attention and probably be more useful than discounting to 99 cents and promoting. I got the idea from Alessandra Torre (a multi-time NYT bestseller) and other successful romance authors. I had been thinking of trying this for a while and 2023 is the time.

I gave up on freebies as a promo tool b/c they generated few follow-on sales BUT do you mean that, even tho' you've freebied an ebook, that ebook's KU reads are paid per page?  If that's so, I need to re-think (when just thinking about marketing is hard enough).

Thanks for the strategy.

Yes. People will read it in KU even though it's free. Because you are an author new to them, they'd rather not clutter up their Kindles, I presume. That happened when I did a free run of my box set last year. Then there was a tail of reading and purchasing the other books in the series.

Yes, you still get KU reads when you do a KU free promo.

This is a correct statement.  KU reads jumped with the promo.
