Title: Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis
Post by: Jeff Tanyard on May 06, 2024, 03:16:40 PM
The teaser trailer for this movie is out.  Check it out:

I'm not terribly impressed by the trailer.   :Hqn66ku:

I'm also not very optimistic about this movie.  Coppola made some some of the greatest movies ever back in the 1970s, but he arguably hasn't made a truly great movie since Apocalypse Now.

What do y'all think?  Does the movie look interesting to you?  Do you plan to see it?  Do you think Coppola, at the age of 85, still has what it takes?

The movie comes out May 17th.

I'm not terribly impressed by the trailer.   :Hqn66ku:

Seems like the tagline should be: "Darth Emo discovers the Force."

That is one terrible trailer.

The premise could be interesting. I'm just worried from the Wikipedia summary that the story being centered around the mayor's daughter might be dull. I'm assuming she'll probably meet up with and become allies with Cesar to go on time-stopping hijinks with, but she by no means sounds like the main character.

I'm not a happy heights sort of guy so the trailer was enough for me  :n2Str17:

Well, he poured everything into it. Like all his wine. He sold his Coppola wine brand to make this movie.

I'm definitely seeing it. Anything different than the same old Hollywood thing catches my eye. And I love Coppola.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I don't know if I will.  The reviews so far have not been encouraging.

What do we know about who sees movies? Because we know that most book readers are women. I don't think this trailer appeals to women at all.

The trailer shows no personality. It doesn't ask an important question or set up an important conflict. At most, by the end, we realize that the guy may have control of time and risked his life to prove it. But he's not a conventionally attractive, physically appealing guy, and we know nothing about his personality or situation that might make him appealing emotionally.

A while back, I gave up wasting my time on movies made by men for men. Funny that supposedly this story could be about a woman. If she's important to the story, she should be in the trailer.
