Does your writing:
Dip, wobble, and sway like a train on an unstable railway?
Derail frequently on plot holes, or continuity issues?
Have trouble finding junctions for all your ideas?
Keep getting bedeviled with typos like weeds sprouting on a railroad line?
I can get you on the "write" track! :)
I offer copy and line editing, and proofreading. But my work covers considerably more than simply making sure your prose's grammar is fine and your writing is typo-free. If, say, you are writing a detective novel, and he/she is a likable sleuth, I am going to offer you suggestions as to plot and/or character detail that will help ensure your readers cheer on your heroes. No editing software ever made can offer writers that kind of encouragement, because technology is impersonal, and I always bring a personal touch to my editing and proofreading, because I love my work and want to see my clients succeed.
I work on the following genres:
Mystery
Historical
Action-adventure
Fantasy
Literary
Sci-fi
(Space opera and the like, but nothing too dark.)
Romance
(Serious only, especially romantic suspense.)
I also edit blog posts, articles, letters, dissertations, etc. (FYI: I do not edit anything political.)
The way I operate is by working in close collaboration with my clients. I send them regular queries and updates as the project progresses from start to finish. This is your manuscript, not mine. All I am here to do is help make your work roll as smoothly as a train on well-maintained rails.
For further details, such as pricing and contact information, please consult my website: www.heldediting.com (You can also contact me direct via heldediting[at]gmail.com)
All new clients are eligible for 25% off any editing service on works over 50K words, and 15% off on works under 50K! :)

Testimonials
"Working with Tony Held helped me to significantly improve my book, add needed scenes/chapters and remove unnecessary elements. His chapter by chapter feedback was detailed and pointed out where I needed character or scene development, had inconsistencies from any point in the book to another or had simply nailed it and he loved it. He was timely in responses to me and I couldn't be more satisfied with the experience. I highly recommend working with Tony."

Happy summer, scribes! :tup3b I recently edited a book for a new client, and she was highly pleased with my constructive, collaborative approach to helping her iron out the last details in her prose. I'd be happy to do the same for you, so feel free to drop me a line, and let's chat! :)

At Held Editing, I can assure you your intellectual property is safe not only from plagiarism but also the powers of Nature. The night before I made this post, I plucked from my work table a USB drive containing the backup of a client's project and ducked into my safe spot steps from my home office as a line of storms kicking up tornadoes (four of them, it turned out! :icon_eek:) menaced my city. Had worst come to worst, the project in question would not have been lost. Such is the care I give to every author's work.

We may be in late summer by now, but the Held Editing Express operates 365 days a year. :) Slots remain available in my schedule.

Well, summer's green leaves may be poised to turn red now that we've passed Labor Day, but Held Editing rolls on, just like the railroads do worldwide. Need a seat on an editing train? Hop on board the Held Editing Express, scribe! :)

Do I use Aritifical Intelligence in any way, shape or form when I am reviewing a manuscript? No, I do not. True, I have software at my disposal, but I--in careful collaboration with my clients--make the choices about how the prose sounds and flows. AI is no substitute for human intuition and insight, especially in the realm of writing.

Fall is here, summer is gone, but the Held Editing train rolls on. New clients welcome.

When jointed rail on a rail corridor needs replacing, it can be welded together instead of replaced outright. Welding jointed rail is thus a good analogy if you are looking to fuse at least some of your short sentences together to create long, complex ones--and I am just the proverbial trackworker to do so. New clients welcome!
-
Comma splices create run-on sentences, which means hey are the equivalent to train track spikes getting loose over time, causing the rails to become unsteady. If you need an editor to carefully check your prose like a trackworker does for loose spikes, I'm your guy! :) I still have openings available.
-
Don't rely on AI to spot your mistakes. Rely on a human editor's eye.
-
If you feel your manuscript keeps going down the wrong track, I can help you get it on the "write" one.

November already? Boy oh boy, how a year can roar by like a train! But no matter what month you turn your calendar to, I am here to help you make sure your writing is on track.
-
When a train cannot climb a steep grade, it loses speed until it grinds down to a halt. That is when helper locomotives are sent in to assist the train over the hill. If you have written a manuscript with details you keep getting stuck on, chances are your enthusiasm will grind down until you stall out too. An editor's work is thus analogous to a helper locomotive getting a train over a steep climb, and I would be happy to assist any author in getting their work over that steep grade and on it's way to publication.

Sometimes all a manuscript needs is a good proofread to make sure it is on the "write track." If you are in need of a proofreader with a sharp eye for catching all the misspellings, missing words, minor continuity glitches, etc., drop me a line, my friend, and let's chat! :)

If putting the final polish on your manuscript is proving to be too overwhelming a task, I can be of assistance.
