The purpose of this thread will be to share your best advice for life, not necessarily writing life, but life in general but returning to writing life for a moment we can take that moment to mention that sometimes, just sometimes, run-on sentences may be okay, especially if your English teachers are long dead and not likely to withdraw your past grades over them or if you write books unlikely to be seen by the aforementioned English teachers or anyone else for that matter and with that all out of the way let us proceed with the dispensation of advice for life.
Always smell and verify the apple juice before drinking.

Look for the good, practice moderation, give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. And laugh. Lots.
-
Buy an alarm clock. No cell phone in the bedroom. Set the alarm clock for the same time every day, 7 days a week.
-
So, that sounds like, no phone sex in the bedroom, doesn't it?

I've chased life around a bit over the years, in many countries, many professions and many relationships.
In the end, I have only one life and my advice for you is the same as for me - live it!
-
Never be cruel, never be cowardly. And never ever eat pears!
Remember – hate is always foolish…and love, is always wise.
Laugh hard. Run fast. Be kind.
-
Don't sweat the small stuff
(It's all small stuff!)

You'll never get out of this world alive. So get over the resentment of that fact and have compassion for yourself and the rest of us.
Wash behind your ears and take care of your stomach.

uhhhh i guess it depends on what peripherals you have?? LOL
-
Protect your time because no one else is going to do it for you.
-
Live by the Golden Rule.
-
Try to think ahead.
Examine yourself thoroughly before blaming others (without beating yourself up unreasonably).
Embrace nuance and complexity (without letting ambivalence paralyze you).
Find ways to enjoy and draw meaning from your life, even if things are hard.

There is no perfect. The world is chaos, it is the cacophony. The mud is inescapable because it is an unceasing byproduct of human existence. You'll never be free of the mess. You'll never wash out the human stain. Fighting this notion, even if temporarily satisfying, ultimately brings misery. Trade in that treadmill chase for the next fix, that short-term dopamine of righteousness, for the long-term sanity born of embracing the madness. Accept that you're part of the crazy and live peacefully, visiting as much kindness on yourself and others as you can.
The storm may be permanent, but so to is your mind's ability to provide shelter.

Good stuff, Maggie Ann. My kid turned me on to this last week when we were driving.
Tears will flow. Goosebumps will rise.

That was my person version of hell, until I went full-time writing.
My advice would be, wake up when your body wants to wake up. Sleep when you want to sleep. Eat when you're hungry, not when it's a habit, and stop when you're full. And don't apologize for any of it, not to anyone.
-
Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Follow the path of least regret.

Sing like no one is listening,
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
Dance like nobody’s watching,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.

It's hard to beat Jesus giving advice to Superman:
-
You are not your circumstances. Every life has value; don't sell yourself short.
Medical information is not always untainted or impartial, and sometimes the expert advice won't be right for you personally. If something feels really wrong, and your body is telling you "nope," don't ignore that for the experts. They don't have to live with the damage; they get to rest on laurels and shrug about studies that later turn out to be tainted, drugs that turned out to kill people.
Believe yourself. Believe your body. Find what works for YOUR health and do that.
Find ways to incorporate being around nature into your life, every day that it's possible.
Learn what makes you happy. Do more of that.
Try to follow the Golden Rule and show compassion for those in need.
Cut toxicity out of your life whenever possible.
Keep learning.
-
You are what you do.
In the end, no one will know or care what your intentions were, or what you were thinking, or how you justified yourself. All they'll see are the actions.
You may succeed or you may fail, you may be praised or criticized, but you are your actions. The person you wind up becoming is the result of a lifetime of decisions expressed in every action you take.

Sing like no one is listening,
Love like you’ve never been hurt,
Dance like nobody’s watching,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.
I love this - I have a slightly different version on my wall next to my desk.
Also love:
Start where you are
Use what you have
Do what you can
-
Always be kind, kindness comes from inner strength, not weakness.
Help those you can when you can, and never tell anyone about the help you give.
Never raise your voice, in public or private, to those you love, to those you know and to those you don't know.
Work hard. You'll sleep better, be it from satisfaction of a job well done or exhaustion.

Best advice for life?
Do your best.
Keep hope in your pocket.
Cry when you hurt.
Ask for help when you need to.
All are born to die but many can choose how to live.

Live your own life and not somebody else's.
