thanks, Vanessa! It was a PTA-sponsored boutique for four hours. I broke even, but it was for a good cause, so no worries.

Yeah. Boutiques are a hit and miss. It's good to break even on them. I sell crystal jewelry too, so with my children's books and romance books for Moms, they compliment each other. But I do better at Ren Fairs these days. Art and Wine festivals are especially good, but really expensive for booth fees. So, hard to break even. I'm going to be looking into doing Comic Cons next though. The children's books might do well there too. Always good to share where you retail. Tips help, but I think genre has a lot to do with it too.  grint

I tend to make more profit at the little events than at comic cons and book festivals. Even when a con pays for my booth and hotel, and have a green room, I still have costs that must be offset by sales. Sure, I'll sell two or three thousand dollars in books at a major con, but it still costs me over a grand to be a vendor, or a couple hundred bucks to be a guest.
I've got another boutique event this Saturday. It's actually at a tractor pull in a neighboring town. This one only costs me food, gas, and product, so I only need to sell a book or two to break even. It'll also be the first event that I'll have Erika's prerelease complete children's book series. I'll be sure to post photos.
