Facebook Ad Account terminated
« on: October 30, 2018, 08:57:11 AM »
A word of warning....

My advertising account on Facebook was just deactivated.  This occurred long after my ads had been shown and were paid for. Facebook will not give specifics other than to say that I cannot appeal the decision.  After reading through their guidance and looking at a post on Kboards of another author who was banned, I see one commonality.  We both posed questions to the reader as part of the ad.

My ad was for a science fiction book and didn't even feature a person in the image. Here's the copy, "A pandemic follows a worldwide network outage. Is it the world's first cyberwar? Or something worse?"

I had two versions of the same ad.  One included the cover, which shows a generic city skyline with streams of light (shown below). The other included the unedited image shown here:

I'm posting this as a cautionary note to other authors.  I may be wrong as to the reason (their email was vague), but I would recommend not asking ANY questions to your the Facebook audience.

One addendum to my previous post:

I used an affiliate link to Amazon - which appears to be a no-no (though I can't find anything definitive on the Facebook page).

I read the other post too. It's really difficult when you are just guessing. But your books do not, at least, show any signs or 'suggestions' of nudity. In the other post, the reply from Facebook said something to the effect that the 'business model' was something they didn't like, so, I think it may be very likely that it is the affiliate link in your case.

I may well be the other author being referenced here. I was never able to get my FB ad account back, FWIW. It's been 14? months. I have sent a few polite messages asking about further appeals, none of which have received a response.

I'm so sorry it happened to you, Michael. :(

This won't have anything to do with the question you asked of your audience, or the aff link. The aff link isn't against Facebook's TOS, it's against Amazon's affiliate program TOS. Honestly, the AI probably triggered on the word war. Unfortunately, FB is the worst platform for trying to sort these issues out. Just keep appealing. Even when they tell you no, keep appealing. If that doesn't work, open another ad account under your ads manager.
