Anyone know "Manybooks.net" promotion site?
« on: November 24, 2018, 11:46:12 PM »
I just got a mail from Manybooks.net offering me a discount on a promotion in their newsletter.
They got my email from my blog. The email looks perfectly straightforward to me, but I'm don't know what to look for in terms of red flags.
Has anyone used them? Know anything about them?

Goodness, I haven't heard that name mentioned in years. In fact, I forgot all about them. I may not be remembering correctly, but I think they only did free public domain books.

Again, this was years ago when I got my first Kindle.

I can't sperak for this one, I have no idea, although I have seen the name before.

I tend to just delete any emails I get like that.

I've gotten what seems like a lot of similar email offers lately, plus constant chatty updates I don't recall signing up for from Canva and other places I know I have accounts with. BookBub seems to want terribly to Be My Friend, which is absurd, since they have a long line of people desperate to pay them thousands of dollars every day. Yes, in theory I could turn off all notifications, but FOMO (fear of missing out) makes me just leave the email in my Inbox, to read through Some Other Time. Or never. These kinds of emails promise to teach me something I don't already know about marketing and promotion. About 99% of the time, that's not the case. Canva, sure. Alli? WhatshernamePenn? IngramSpark newsletter? Nope.

Some people soliciting business from me are the same people I've dealt with before, but they've split off into multiple names. So at first I wonder, "Who is this?"

As far as new-to-me promotion companies doing the equivalent of an email cold call, my answer is to delete. It's too much work to research whether they are legit or effective for other people's books. And since well-known companies like ENT haven't been effective for my own books, what's the point?

It's true. I have suddenly got a spate of author related cold call emails similar to this one, all using an email address they could only have gotten from my blog.

I usually delete them.

Manybooks is a good legit site that I use regularly.

I think they're simply trying to drum up business by offering a discount to give them a try.

If you regularly do 99c or free promos, I'd say give 'em a try.

They're legit, but never delivered results for me.

As a rule of thumb, if someone solicits me to pay them to promote me, the answer is no.

Since they were offering me a discount, I did give them a try.
Not a great result. I sold a few more books than I normally do, but it didn't cover my costs.
In comparison, with Book Barbarian I made about twice the amount I spent, so that was worth it. And I noticed slight increases in the next book in the series as well on the day of the promotion, which was interesting.

I used them once a long time ago. Didn't really notice much of anything in terms of results.

They did one for me lately and messed up. I didn't even notice, but I got an email apologizing for the mistake and an offer to run my promo on their next available date. They did as they promised, so I'd say we can trust these people. I had another promo for the same day, so I can't tell how well it did. Their prices are reasonable, so I will try them again.
