Baffled by targetting ads
« on: February 10, 2020, 07:28:58 AM »
I am currently running a Bookbub ad and it is doing reasonably well but I target the readers of only one other author. He writes FANTASY. I always do well targetting his readers and I honestly do not get it. There shouldn't be any huge crossover. To put it mildly, there is no magic in my novels. None. And no imaginary lands. Nothing that would seem to appeal to the same audience. I suppose I should check out targetting the readers of other fantasy writers, but it just does my head in to think about it.

That's bizarre. Maybe look at this author's also boughts to get some ideas for other crossover authors?

Side question - I never know what to do about a book bub ad that is going well. When I look at book bub emails they send me the same ads over and over (No I am not interested in the magic of turmeric.) So I don't run a book bub ad for more than a week, although I do pay by the click on bookbub so maybe it doesn't matter anyway?

The effectiveness of my ads goes down pretty rapidly. I occasionally run one for two weeks but no longer than that. My biggest issue is finding good authors to target. In historical fiction, that is tough. The HF authors who advertise on BB tend to be the big trade published ones like Cornwell, and those don't work well in my experience for indy authors. The HF authors on my AB lists don't have BB followers or not enough to advertise to anyway.

The author do target (yeah, just one and my own followers) does medieval-type fantasy and it does work well but trying to figure out why the crossover works gives me a headache.
