KDP Browse Topics don't match actual Amazon topics!
« on: October 23, 2018, 01:34:07 AM »
This is really bizarre... KDP's "Browse Topics" tree doesn't seem to jibe with the actual category tree in use on Amazon!

Example: The Amazon Category (which I most assuredly can navigate to on Amazon.com) I want to list in is:
   Books>  Business & Money>  Economics> Digital Currency

So for sure the category exists - just checked it on Amazon itself. But in KDP's eBook Publishing page, the "Browse Categories" question offers a completely different hierarchy of topics! The closest I can get is:
   Nonfiction> Business & Economics> Economics> General

Note that even the highest-level categories are different - "Business & Economics" in KDP vs. "Business & Money" on the actual Amazon site.

What gives here? Is there a trick for getting access to the actual categories that exist on the Amazon website? It's almost as if KDP is running on an old snapshot that's way out of date or something. I cannot find a "Digital Currency" category anywhere on KDP's tree, but the category definitely exists on AMazon. Since I want very much to be on its best-seller list, I really need to tag it as a browse category on KDP, but this seems impossible.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Thanks

You have two options to force your book to show up in those drilled-down subcategories:

1. Use applicable keywords (i.e., digital currency). This usually works.

2, You can simply email KDP Support and request that they include your book in your desired subcategories. Give them the whole tree(s). Please note, however, that if you use this option, your categories may reset to the defaults should you update your book at a later date.
