This reminds me of the story of author James Jones helping to doctor a movie script.
The Hollywood director was desperate. He was shooting a movie about a Word War II battle. A soldier wanted to open a can of beans during a lull in the action.
But the script didn't sound right. How would the soldier open the can of beans.
So the director went to the WWII expert James Jones (From Here to Eternity).
But Jones was in the middle of a new novel. "Nope," he said.
The director was frantic How would the soldier open the can of beans.
Jones finally agreed when the director offered  $20,000.
So Jones put his creative cap on and inserted "can opener" in the proper spot. Then he returned to his new novel.
Sometimes pay per word ain't so bad.
