Author Topic: It looks like a new round of compromised passwords are being used for phishing.  (Read 4577 times)

A while back I got the 'we caught you watching porn on your computer' email that also included an old password as proof. The last couple of days I'm getting spammed again, repeating the same old password. For a while I did use that password for more websites than I should, so I went through all the ones I cared about and created unique passwords for each one. That old password may get them into some old job application websites. If they can get hired, good for them!

I've got two that were compromised.

One I cannot do anything about since the site is long defunct.

The second I reported to the site owner that they may have had a breach, but they've yet to respond.  I think it's been a month or so.  Anyway, I changed my password on that one.

Haven't gotten any eMails on the second one in a while, but the first one started up again a couple days ago.

I use unique passwords on each site.  The problem is hunting down which site I used a particular password on so I can change it when these things happen.

See if your password manager has a export to csv feature. I use Roboform as my password manager and it has a export to csv feature.  Searching a csv file should help to figure out the site?

So of course while I'm in high alert mode, CreditWise sends an email with the heading that they found an older email on the dark web. Uh huh. Against my better judgement, I opened it on my phone and it crashed Gmail. WTF? So, on the PC I deleted it without opening it. But, it turns out it's a legit notice. So I ended up finding a few more accounts that needed updating.

Would that be 1997 when websites had dark backgrounds and neon text?   :hehe

I like dark themes! This one has actually been toned down from where it started:

The first rule of the Dark Web is we do not talk about the Dark Web.   :tap
