"Completed series" as a selling point?
« on: November 04, 2018, 09:05:08 PM »
Is the fact that a series is complete something that would be worth highlighting? If so - how and where? Book description? Keywords?

Is this published yet? If it is, then show the links to the other books in the bottom of the description (not highlighted, just 'there') If not how do you intend to release them?

Yes, I think so. Some readers may be reluctant to start a series that isn't finished yet so knowing it's complete is a definite selling point. I would use 'complete series' as a keyword (not necessarily for every book, just the first maybe) and mention it in each book description too. Also make sure you have a series page, it helps!

At the bottom of each description you could list the books:

Read the complete (series name):
Book 1
Book 2
Book 3
etc

At the end of the blurb I say something like:
Overfed Games is Book One of the Dogness and Reta Trilogy.  Book Two:  Dousing Fire and Book Three:  Silent Bird can be found on notthatamanda's author page.  I don't put links in the blurb.

KDP will set up the series and link them for you, but you have to email them to ask.

It is a huge selling point for me. I love to binge read and hate waiting months for a series to get done.  I've seen authors put a little note at the end of a blurb, but I will check the series page to see how many are released already.

Thanks everyone, that is very helpful.

I'm about to publish the last book in the series, the others are all already published.

Also make sure you have a series page, it helps!

I was unsure about this. What is a series page? The books I'm talking about is my "Linked Worlds" series - "The Babylon Eye" and "The Real" and I'm about to publish "The Strange". I've got their series title filled in, but I'm not sure what a series page is?

Ah, those books aren't linked at the mo. You should link those books in your edit book details section in KDP by naming the series and making "The Babylon Eye" and "The Real" books 1, 2 etc in the relevant sections.

Then contact amazon with your ASINs and ask them to link them so your product pages will show the books in the series like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Philosophers-Stone-Rowling-ebook/dp/B019PIOJYU

Amazon will also create a series page for you like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073ZD7CKJ

Thanks for this. I have already entered the series name in the book details section in KDP and numbered them as you describe.
So the next step is to email Amazon? I will do that now.

Fantastic, thanks for the help.

Ugh, sorry. How do I email Amazon ?  :icon_redface:

When I click on the "Contact us" links in KDP I just get a search page of help topics.

There's a contact us button on that page of topics near the bottom. Click on it and select Amazon Product Page. Then select Series Bundle and fill out the info. Hopefully they'll have set everything up for you in a few days  :smilie_zauber:

Same here.

I'm late to the party, but yes. Many readers want to begin a series only after all the books have been published. A completed series is a selling point.

However, it's also good to have something for readers to continue on to -after- that series. But building your backlist takes time.

I've never used 'Complete Series' as a selling point, but I always put a link in the back to the next installment, even when there isn't a next one ready yet. The short link will take them to a page that, if the book is already published, will redirect them to the book. If the book isn't published, the link lands on an 'Oops' page that apologizes for the book not being ready, tells them when it's supposed to be ready, gives them a signup option to be informed about the release (giving me another chance to add their email to the list) and encourages them to check out other titles I have that they may not have read. My target market is those people who want to buy the book now or after its release. If they're only interested in buying a book because the series is done, unless they want to buy a boxed set which I will happily sell them as it becomes available, then they're too much off of my charted course to worry about.
I write because I want to, not because of the woman standing over my shoulder holding a particularly pointy object. Right, dear?
