Ebooks Disappearing For Anyone Here?
« on: November 11, 2018, 03:11:49 AM »
A growing thread on KB suggests many books have "disappeared" from Zon. By page two of the thread, it appears many are in fact missing, but only in non-U.S. markets. Only coincidentally (or not), I'm so far showing no sales today, but KENP is actually a bit higher than usual. No sales are highly unusual. I would normally have a couple dozen by now. I'm hoping this suggests a glitch and not a sudden downturn in popularity.

Has anyone here had their ebooks go missing? Is anyone experiencing a dip in sales today?

My ebook appears to have disappeared from the US store. I’m in the UK so normally I see a ‘not available for purchase’ message on the ebook page but since this morning there doesn’t seem to be an ebook version at all on the US site. No sales today either but that’s pretty much my November so far.

Mine hasn't 'disappeared' but book 2 in my trilogy is 'currently unavailable' on .com.

It's not a geo block or ISP issue - I've looked at it from every available angle.

For me, it started yesterday. No sales registered until early evening. Same again today. Reads are slightly up but stable.
The book ranks on my Author Central are totally out of whack with the book pages.

On my dashboard, Books 2 and 3 are both showing 'Limited Availability' on .com and .co.uk ... in completely different countries.

If I thought I'd get a sensible response, I'd drop the mighty Zon a line. But ...  :shrug

According to the updates in the thread at that other place, this seems to be a problem when trying to view our books in the US store from overseas. One of by books still isn't showing when I search for it, but I ran an ad for it and it is getting downloads in the US. I sent a query to Amazon about it, but still haven't heard back from them 24 hours later.

They do seem to be following it more closely. (I've noticed the most active forum here lately is the Gamer Room. Hmm.)

There are more of them over there, hence a greater likelihood of more people being affected.

It's not a geo block or ISP issue - I've looked at it from every available angle.

I'm not convinced about that. If I log out of my US Amazon account AND connect via a US-based VPN, I see all the missing stuff just fine, exactly as it ought to be. And for me, at any rate, sales and borrows are chugging along at the usual rate. So if Amazon thinks I'm in the US, all is well, but if it thinks I'm outside the US, I get stuff disappearing. I've lost all but two of my ebooks, but I don't think it's a crisis (yet).
