Food Porn
« on: February 22, 2019, 08:49:26 AM »
Seems an apt thread name given the sub-forum title.

Post a pic of food you enjoy. I'll start...

"The State is an institution run by gangs of murderers, plunderers and thieves, surrounded by willing executioners, propagandists, sycophants, crooks, liars, clowns, charlatans, dupes and useful idiots -- an institution that dirties and taints everything it touches." - Hans Hoppe

Can't go past baked potatoes

Post-apocalypse or epic fantasy anyone?
Or perhaps tarot and astrology are more up your alley?

I love cooking and also eating out and post a lot of food pics to Twitter. Here is a selection:

My own efforts:

Spaghetti with garlic shrimps

Kimchi ramen with beef and eggs

Gumbo z herbes (green gumbo)

Chicken paprika, served over pasta

Restaurant food:

Vietnamese summer rolls and rice noodles in orange ginger sauce with tofu.

Marillenknödel (sweet dumplings filled with apricot compote) with rum vanilla sauce

A trio of ice cream sundaes

Had lunch at Texas de Brazil (a churrascaria) in Irvine a couple days ago. Servers bring meat on skewers to your table and carve whatever you want.

All you can eat. Freaking awesome.

I got lucky and snagged some okras at the Asian grocery and made gumbo with turkey, shrimps and crawfish:

And since wild garlic is currently in season, I made spaghetti with wild garlic:

Asparagus is also in season and one of my favourite ways to prepare it as asparagus risotto:

Beautiful looking food. Not one will end up on Rate My Plate. That Facebook page is a reliable 'go to' when I'm procrastinating or needing a laugh. It has over 2 million likes and followers, so obviously a lot of other people enjoy dissing on ugly looking food.  But no uglies here ^^^ makes me hungry looking at them.

Some traditional North German dishes unfortunately look horribly ugly even if you happen to like them, such as this pea soup:

But mostly, there is a correlation between food that looks good and food that tastes good.

No ladies were harmed in the making of that gumbo.

Meanwhile, here is today's lunch, salmon teriyaki with asparagus, cooking:

And here is the salmon teriyaki on the plate, served with green tea soba noodles and the above mentioned asparagus:

Remember in I'm Gonna Git You Sucka when Chris Rock's character asked for one rib?  Well, that's the rib he was talking about.   :icon_mrgreen:

I don't think I'd ever heard of Meatless Monday until now.  A quick internet search indicates it's actually a thing.   :Hqn66ku:

I don't eat meat every day, though I don't designate a specific day of the week to be meatless. If I want meat on a Monday, I will damn well have it. And in fact, I had chicken rendang this Monday.

Meanwhile, this was my lunch on Tuesday: Vietnamese summer roll and a rice noddle bowl with tempura shrimp and spicy mango sauce.

I'm showing this off, because the pic came out really well with the dramatic lighting contrasts.
