QR code in KDP book - is that allowed?
« on: March 28, 2019, 11:54:30 PM »
I'm formatting a book for a friend. She wants to insert a QR code that will link to the maps she's created for the story. Leaving aside whether you think it's a good idea or not, is this allowed in Amazon KDP? I can't find any mentions of QR codes in the KDP content guidelines.

Is this for KDP Print?  Or for an eBook?

If the former, I don't know.  I would think whatever linking rules for URLs Amazon has in place for print books would apply.

If the latter, how would that work?  The reader uses their smartphone to scan the QR code on their Kindle screen?

Sorry I should have said. Ebook. I'm not sure how it's supposed to work, I guess pointing a phone at the kindle reader? Not so worried about that aspect.

I would think the standard linking rules would apply.  So anything you couldn't put in a regular link, like a link to B&N  :hehe, probably wouldn't be allowed in the QR either.  But linking to your own site is still okay, so far as I know, so linking to a map on your own site I would think would be okay as well.

I would think just a link would be easier than a QR code though.  QR codes are typically for print.  I occasionally (rarely) see them on websites and it's like, um, why?

I'm not sure why. There is a link as well as a QR code. It seems strange to me as well.
