What are the best free promos nowadays? Is freebooksy still any good?

Freebooksy has been rising costs/diminishing returns for me.  Never the less, they are the best value for me right now.

I booked Freebooksy for for my new adult romance, first in trilogy permafree and Red Feather for my contemporary romance, first in trilogy permafree.   Not for several weeks.

I like to get the permafrees on peoples devices heading into the summer (up here on the northern half of the globe that is.)

Freebooksy is still okay. The thing to remember is that each time you use a site you will get diminishing returns.

Freebooksy still does well, but each time I get diminishing results, which makes sense. Once their readers have downloaded your book, they don't need to do so again. My results for a free download were over 2000 first time, 1200 second, and down to 500 for my third. I think this book is played out with them.  But it's a good platform if it's your first or 2nd run with FB.

I agree with everything you have said. Important to note: you need less downloads to return a profit as your backlist increases.

Anyone know what a long gap not using them does?

Its been 2 years since I last promo'd my book 1 with them, and I'd done it 3 times in the previous 18 months, with the above mentioned deminishing returns.

But I wondered if a couple of year break makes much difference?
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

The problem is running a book too often. I just ran book 1 in my highlander series yesterday and got over 900 downloads (on Amazon), pushing it up to #1 free in it's category. I ran it in Oct., 2018 and got about the same results. Fortunately, I have three permafree and several others out of over 50 that I can temporarily discount. Bookbub only accepts one of my books and it always cost me over $700.00. However, I can run seven promos over the course of a year with Freebooksy for the same amount.

Consider that some people drop off mailing lists and new ones sign on. So I think every six months per book is a good rule.

It does make a difference. They do work on building their list, so there will be some fresh eyes. Fussy Librarian's Free eBook Newsletter is also great, EreaderIQ, and BookDoggy. If your book isn't permafree, and it's never been featured before other great places are ENT, BookSends, Free Kindle Books & Tips, BookBarbarian, and RobinReads. Permafrees don't do as well; after a while everyone has seen them. But if you can get a permafree on BookBub the tail lasts a year if you let them keep it on their site.

I had my freebooksy yesterday.  989 downloads, book got into the top 100 free store, top ten in two categories.
A couple of years ago I would have had 2000 downloads, but the ranks wouldn't have been as good, especially at the height of the scammer madness.  This is for my new adult romance, I have no idea what the return would be on science fiction.
