Apparently I'm an avid kindle reader (um, no) and they are offering me this exclusive order.   It expires 10/15.
$9.99/month after that, cancel anytime.

I know Walmart has been pushing their ebooks with inserts in packages. Maybe this is Amazon's attempt to grab back any of the consumers who might have stepped away?

I don't know, but when I read it my thought was they are just trying to get people to sign up for KU.  Get $9.99/month from them for as long as they can.
Edit - and gather data on shoppers just as the holiday season comes around again.
