Newb Question about Ads Execution
« on: October 03, 2019, 04:52:21 AM »
Hello all.

I just published my first novel, and I am trying to learn the ins and outs of the business/marketing side of things.

I've been reading the posts here, which are very helpful (thank you), but I have a question. It's probably very elementary once you've done it, but as I mentioned I'm new to this marketing gig.

When I advertise my book (for example on The Fussy Librarian), how do I put the book on sale on every platform while the ad is running? I do not know how to do this manually on Amazon, AND I'm using Ingram as the listing aggregator for the listings on B&N, Kobo & Apple Books, so that's an added wrinkle for me.

My ebook reg price is $5.99 (although Kobo and B&N have reduced the price a tad), but if I want to run it at half price or even 99 cents to coincide with the ad, I'm not sure how to do that.

Thank you in advance for any help.

On Amazon you have to set the new price manually.  For a 99c price that means switching to the 35% royalty option too. (I just did this myself for an upcoming promo.)

Unfortunately they don't have any mechanism for entering a sale price.

Amazon you have to resubmit the book with new pricings, using as said, the 35% royalty option to get 99c, but changing every country manually to make sure they have the correct amount listed. Aus for example, has loadings on there, so the conversion of US$ to Aus$ isn't exact. If you don't manually set the Aus price to 99c, it will come out around $1.40 instead.

The other thing is, change the price well in advance, in case Amazon take a long time to process the price change. First books in series take about 10 times longer to process, and first time books possibly take the same. It also takes time for the price change to appear on the product page, where doing a KU based deal only takes hours. So make sure you allow several days at least for the price change to happen, before the promo starts.

I didn't even know Ingram did eBook aggregating, so can't help there. You might in fact be the first one here using it. In which case, don't be afraid to ask Ingram how to do it, and report here when you figure it out, if no-one posts on how in the meantime. Being a new member doesn't mean you cant add to the knowledge base by being someone doing something first.  grint

Unfortunately, I can't help you with Ingram's either. I'd go to their customer service and ask.
