Has anyone ever found a way round Ariel Sanders?
« on: November 23, 2019, 05:24:28 PM »
A warning to all newcomers; do not sign up to any of this man's list and do not buy his software.

I bought Kindle Sumarai (I think - could have been Kindle Spy) years ago, sent it back because it was rubbish and since then I keep getting emails trying to sell me something. I keep unsubscribing, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I would complain to his mailing list service, except there doesn't seem to be a way to know who that is.

I know I am not alone, but seriously. It is getting beyond a bloody joke.

Any suggestions, apart from ordering a hit man?  :HB

When I see "Ariel" I delete the email without opening.

What mail program are you using?

In Thunderbird you just add a filter using the from address, and sending it straight to junk as already read. Or you can straight delete it, so you never see them again. Happens automatically on the download.
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

Yes, I can delete him or even block him; I'd just really like to get him chucked off his mailing list people.

You have to come to terms with it never happening.

I had a spammer misspell the front end of an email to me. Because any email address which doesn't exist on the domain goes to where I tell it to, it never bounces.

The next thing that happened was I started getting other junk to the same address. The git who misspelled it in the first place, then on-sold the address to other spammers. So for years I've been getting spam to an address which never existed.

Mind you, there are 2 ways of getting off lists.

1. Change your email address.
2. Move your domain to another host.

I did 2 last year, and more than half my spam vanished when for 24 hours, everything bounced.

I also did 1 around the same time, finally getting rid of my original dial-up account and its associated emails.

Between the 2, my spam dropped by about 90% for a while.

However, both may be unavailable to you.

Well, that's the funny thing. I've got two email addresses that I use regularly and all I ever did was to buy this one program of his and I know which address I used. Today, I get yet another to the other email address. The man is a menace and I don't know why he cannot see that he won't sell anything by pestering people.

I haven't had a problem with Ariel, but I have had a problem with other people's spam. I found an easy way to get rid of it, though.

Thunderbird is my email client (mail program), but I didn't even want the spam to reach me there. So I logged on to my email provider, which has a section where you can add those email addresses you want blocked. Now spam doesn't get by my email provider. Of course, your email provider has to have this feature.

I'd go ahead and order the hitman, but short of causing some bloodshed, I'd just create a filter in my email reader, shuttling all of Ariel's emails directly to the Trash bin without me ever seeing them.

That's what I use. I even went so far as to create a set of filters that will only send email to my Inbox IF the sender is in my contact list. Everything else is checked and filtered according to a couple more filters. Emails that have been marked as Spam at some time in the past go straight to Trash. Everything else goes in Holding and I check that every now and then to see if there's anything I need to deal with. I can add a sender in Holding to the contact list or click on Spam. My Holding folder only gets two or three emails a day and I usually look at it a couple of times a week.

I think that's going to have to be the way - the filter, I mean, not the hitman. I don't think I want to waste thousands of pounds to get rid of the little squirt.

To be honest, I was hoping the mention of him might rattle his cage. Last time I posted about him, on KBoards, he turned up and told me his rotten program didn't work because it didn't like my covers!

To be honest, I don't trust the spam filters. It seems to put all sorts in spam, even people I have on my contacts list and who have sent me messages in the past, seem to get put in there. I always check the spam folder, just in case. And, of course, I wouldn't want to miss the Nigerian prince offering me millions!  :dog1:

:hehe That gave me a good giggle. I bought it too and wasn't impressed. I thought about sending it back but then popped it in the alarmingly thick mental file labelled, Janet's Self-Publishing Mistakes.

Then I bought the programme I'd been too stingy to buy in the first place --- KDP Rocket, which is aeons better, IMHO.  Although I'm still rubbish at keyword research, mainly because I fall into a coma after five (two)  minutes whatever method I use.
