So, they are starting to cancel school for 3 weeks in my area. I'm sure many more schools are going to start shutting down, and I know parents are going to be looking for things to do with their kids. I'm like, wow. What an opportunity to help promote our books and help out parents! So, I'm literally throwing together a deals promo to help get deals to parents.

Here's what I'm going to do:
-Collect a list of links of books that will be free downloads or discounted because of the corona virus school closures.
-We should set deals to start running Monday March 16th through the next four weeks: ending Friday April 10.
-Limited deals help motivate people. So, that's why I'm suggesting we set it for a month.
-If you have activities for parents or other lesson plans that go with your books, give me those links too.
-If you're a teacher too and have activities for parents on places like TeacherPayTeachers, give me those links too. I have activities and lesson plans on there for teachers, but parents can do the activities too. My lessons are all writing lessons. A lot are story lessons kids can write. I have an entire spooky story plan already on my blog I'll link too as well.

So, that's the plan. Please post your links in this thread, and I'll put together the list. I'll make a banner that you all can include, and we'll post the lists onto our own blogs and can even send it out to our newsletter lists. Unless you all want me to just post it on my blog and then you can link to it, if that is easier. We can do both too. People like helpful things like this during big events like this pandemic.

I've only got 3 days to get this all ready. So, please get back to me ASAP.

Remember, authors working together and doing cross promos are the best way to sell books.

Wow? Where are all the children's authors? I've already been putting some things together because I can tie in some of my blog gigs from Fiverr to feature for this. There will be a lot of parents looking for things to do with their kids. Come on children's authors! Even if you can't get info by this weekend, I'm going to make it ongoing for the next 3 weeks.

THEY JUST CLOSED THE SCHOOLS IN MY AREA FOR 3 WEEKS!

I will not be surprised if all the schools in the country close soon.

Let's leap on this opportunity now to HELP parents!

Just so you know, I've been an elementary teacher for 20 years. I know that teachers are giving recommendations to do things online, but 6 hours is a long time. Parents won't know how long it will really be before they start to run out of activities. I want to be there to helpfully give them a hand.

Have you looked in the forum for children's books?

I'll be honest, when I saw the thread title, I wasn't sure what this was, thinking maybe some weird scam thing going on. It might be helpful to retitle it to be more clear.
I write various flavors of speculative fiction. This is my main pen name.

Okay. Maybe I'll retitle it.
Thank you. I'll try posting in children's books section maybe too.

I'm happy to discount The Outback Riders series - there are four out and a fifth is due out soon. The first one (Horses of the Sun) is always .99 and I can set each of the others (Horses of the Light, Horses of the Fire, Horses of the Rain) to discount to .99 (usually 3.99) - one a week for three weeks. They have 100 - 150 reviews between them with about a 90% or higher five-star rating, so they are good books. Popular with advanced middle-grade readers and young teens, but more popular with adults who like clean adventure stories about the Australian outback, so good books for parents or guardians to read to youngsters. There are serious matters faced in each book - including the death of a parent, a parent who is an alcoholic, a teenager who has depression, etc. which are handled in a way that is intended to help the younger readers understand that life has problems but we are resilient and we find ways to overcome the difficulties. I lived in the outback where the books are set so parents could consider it a geography lesson. I have U.S. spelling in the books, not my own (correct :D ) Australian spelling, so that should suit U.S. school students. I'm an English teacher with a Masters in Education and have written education articles as well as literacy handouts used in high schools, so I hope all those five star ratings are right and I do write well.

Oh, and I'm happy to do up reading comprehension, English skills, and social sciences (geography) exercises to go with each book if any parents want them. They aren't in the books, but parents, guardians, or children are welcome to email me at [email protected] and I'll email them worksheets.

What I'm planning is everyone posts onto their own blog, and then I'll compile a list of blogs with info/materials.
A direct link to the materials would be preferred. That way they don't have to dig through the site. I"m writing up specific blog posts for my material. Then, I'll post links to others at the bottom of my post. So, I can start the list with our info, and add more links.
I've already got an author interview up now with his book mention.

Working on this over the weekend, and hoping to post promotional links to my books and some of the teaching material on Monday. Then, I can add links to other sites to the bottom and an additional post when we've got a good list of resources.

This can all be ongoing over the next 3 weeks. More schools are closing around the country day by day. So, this could be like a month of needed material for parents. The summer is just going to be shorter this year.

UPDATE: I've started posting on my blog a FREE novel study for my first book in my children's fantasy book. I'm including resources in the post to resources parents can use for their kids. If you have something already online, study questions, lessons, guides for learning, please send me the link. I'm posting it daily. As I'm writing this, the California Governor is talking about closing possibly all the schools for the year now. He's not done it yet, but he's telling people to prepare.

Here's an example of the two posts so far:
Day 1: Free Online Novel Study

Day 2: Free Online Novel Study
https://crystalkeeper.wordpress.com/2020/03/17/day-2-online-novel-study-and-other-activities/

There are going to be a swarm of parents and others looking for activities and lessons for kids soon. Since I am a teacher, there is that need to want to support the parents too. So, please send me links of materials you may have available. I'd like to get the resources to parents as fast as I can. Thank you.

So, I've completed my full online novel study. I'm still looking for children's authors interested in letting me know links they may have on their blogs or websites to help out homeschooling/ Long Distance learning parents. I've got a blog post boosted bringing traffic from FB, and I'm noticing I'm getting traffic from search engines now. This is a great time to support parents and get children's introduced to some great literature. Please PM me or add a message to the thread.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. This is the full novel study with all the links on one post.

This is a great way to give back in these times. Thanks to all those hard working parents and teachers out there.
