What have you heard about Kind of Book promo service?
« on: June 23, 2020, 11:25:04 PM »
I got a cold email from KindofBook, and their website is handsome and has books by some well-known authors, including Brenda Novak. However, nowhere on the site is there a price list for their service. I hate cagey websites. Just tell me if I can afford you, okay?

Anyway, here's the U.S. site (not the link they sent but the site itself): https://us.kindofbook.com/

If you know anything about them, please dish.

Never heard of them, but had a look.

Nothing anywhere which says what they charge, or what their selection criteria are.

Site is copyrighted 2020, so brand new.

My feel is avoid until they have readily available criteria and charges, and publish a list size.

You need to register to get into the author section, and that smells like a means of building an author email list.

I'm not saying the site is dodgy, but it certainly doesn't feel right.
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

Sub to their "deals" list.

Check the books' ranks at Amazon the day after they're promoted.

That'll tell you whether the service deserves your attention.

I've never heard of them. I'm wary of promo sites that have limited info on them. You never know if they could use bots and get you in trouble or end up being just a waste of money (more common, right).

I checked out the site. The website looks nice & clean. They could be legit, just new? If you risk them, let us know if you have any success.

I like Anarchist's idea of subscribing to their deal list and checking out the deals, only I'm too inundated with mail as it is and rather too lazy, too.

That's what I used to do. But they could be running multiple promos so it's not 100% accurate.

I just stick to Nick's list nowadays.  If KindofBook ever makes the cut, then I'll give it a try.  Until then, I won't.

Yeah, I still use a few that are on Nick's list when I launch, too. But mostly, I stick to email, AMS, and BB. :)
