It has become a high profile case. They may have been asked to remove the book. Given the alleged content of the novel and the crimes being investigated, the book may have been taken down out of respect for the victim, or investigators may be looking into possible premeditation. Or the lawyer/family of the accused may have asked that it be taken down. Or it caught the attention of algorithms that flagged all the 1-stars as suspicious.

It's the business of the investigators. We may never know.

It could be Amazon wants to avoid the litigation that sometimes surrounds such works. O.J.'s "If I Did It," for example. There are still Son of Sam laws on the books in some states, too.

In this case, I am thinking that an attorney requested the book be removed for a few reasons. First, it's a high profile case. Second, the jury pool is already going to have a pre-conceived opinion and this book isn't helping matters, third, it's possibly evidence.

There is absolutely no reason to keep it up and every reason to take it down. I doubt that Amazon was the one who instigated this though. My guess is either the DA's office or possibly the investigating police department made the request. Or, if the accused has an attorney, it's also possible his attorney requested the removal.

I'm not familiar with the book. I'm assuming from the nature of the conversation that it has to do with murder, yes? In that case, I could see the author taking it down, probably on the advice of his lawyer. I have no idea what the evidence is like in this case, either, but I can imagine a lawyer thinking that an alleged murderer who is suddenly getting more attention on the basis of a murder-themed book he wrote might be better off without that extra attention. That could be doubly true if any of the details were similar to the actual murder of which he is accused.
