KDP's new series manager
« on: November 04, 2020, 12:27:45 AM »
I like it!

However, one of my series is listed with all the titles in lowercase, which is weird. The series is a short story series. My big novel series are listed exactly as I'd expect.

Don't rush me.

Do they list any limitations, or not allowed's?

Have you tried stringing 2 series into one page?
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

I haven't try to edit anything yet. I'm a bit afraid to jump right in in case there are glitches. :)

I've just tried adding my latest novel to an existing series.
There seems to be an option to add 'related' titles to the series as well as main ones (not sure these are the right terms but I don't want to go back in now in case I upset something! Definitely more than one option there anyway)

This is what I see on the bookshelf now: (sorry I don't screenshot)

NEW!Create and manage a series
+ Series
Create a series: Click the link on the left to enter details for a new series. Learn more.
View existing series: Check the box for View titles in series below to see all your titles in a series. On your titles in a series, click Manage series to navigate to the series manager where you can edit series details and take action on your series titles. Learn more.

This is good, once it gets working.

The related books/shorts don't do anything yet, but the description says that's planned in future.

E.g. you can add prequels/shorts/novellas to the main series list, but not as 'main' titles, just extras.

No way to add lists to other lists that I can see. I mean, they give you a list of books to choose from, which excludes books already in other lists.

You will be able to do related books! I think someone is going to be very happy.  Cut and pasted while I tried it:

You choose Main content OR

Related content
This book is supplemental content for the series (i.e. prequel, short story, etc.). Related content is not yet supported on series detail pages. Providing accurate information for your series now will help ensure the best reader experience as additional features become available.

Back to me:

So coming soon.

On the minus side, I think it set both my books as book 1, but we'll see.

Edit - no the book #s are right but they don't have caps in the titles, which is weird, since you pick off a page of your books you don't type them in.

The new series has been created and both books added.  So that took 5 calendar days. YMMV

I just found myself faced with the new series manager, when I uploaded two new books in my series. I had a bit of a problem, because one of the new books slots inbetween existing volumes, so i had to rearrange the series order, but once I figured out how to do that, it was easy enough. And the new books are already in the series carousel one day later.

Just more fodder...

Being a techie, I noticed a couple of errors in how the new tools are working. I called Zon (they called me). After refusing to accept the BS from level one support, I was called by someone knowledgeable.

The short of it is, they KNOW they have problems with the new tools: "You are not the first to report these errors."

My take: Patience.

Changing the Zon is analogous to Sisyphus.  You might get to the top of the hill or you might get mashed by the boulder.

Cheers,
R.C.

I just wish they would finish the reports beta before they go on to other things. I have 50 books, and all they show me are the first few that sell each day. "Other books" doesn't help me know what's selling.

Including paperbacks I have around 100 titles, and the displays on the Beta reports page aren't useful at all. You can't even set the dashboard to a particular day.

Plus they don't offer the spreadsheet download from there. That would be a deal breaker for me, because I use that report to find out what's actually going on.

(If you're on Windows, download my salesscanner software and then export the spreadsheet from the sales dashboard on the regular KDP site. It'll give you the breakdown you want.)

The Beta report is a slight improvement on the old but that's the best that can be said for it.
