Quick PSA
« on: November 26, 2020, 09:04:30 AM »
This popped up on Amazon Advertising:

"Some advertising systems are experiencing delays including campaign creation and reporting. We are currently evaluating the full impact. We don’t yet have a time estimate for when functionality will be fully recovered."

I have no idea what the problem is, everything seems to be working for me.

UPDATE: Impressions are listed a being WAY down.  Definitely a problem in the reporting and, hopefully, not in the actual presentations....

UPDATE: Received this morning: "Most advertising systems have recovered from the delays earlier today. Ad serving and campaign management have recovered. We are now processing backlogged reporting data but don’t yet have a time estimate for when that backlog will be completed. We are actively backfilling the data and will provide an update by 11/26 06:30 in the morning pacific time or earlier."

Cheers,

I have no idea what the problem is, everything seems to be working for me.

The outages are sporadic.

I created a ton of ads today. Audited many others. No problems at all.

The reporting is frozen though. Hopefully it doesn't come back just in time to tell me I've spent enough to bail out the fossil fuel industry or something.

Yeah I saw that too.

Anarchist - do you think 6000+ impressions in two days on a single campaign is a little strange? I've never had results like that before.
Most of them are on a single keyword (very general word) and they're all 15 cents, which is what I am bidding, which is far lower than the $1+ they are recommending.

Latest - Advertising systems are starting to recover from the delays earlier today. Ad serving has recovered but campaign management and reporting continue to be delayed. We continue to evaluate the full impact. We don’t yet have a time estimate for when functionality will be fully recovered. We will provide an update by 21:30 pacific time.

"Ad serving has recovered"

Ominous. I thought my ads had been showing but no reporting had taken place. (And indeed, I could see my ads on various product pages)

Now wondering whether there was a big gap where no ads were serving?

https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/25/21719396/amazon-web-services-aws-outage-down-internet

Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s internet infrastructure service that is the backbone of many websites and apps, has been experiencing a multi-hour outage that is affecting a large portion of the internet. And as of 5:25PM ET on Wednesday, a full recovery might still be a few hours away, according to Amazon.

I just got a note on my dash than a campaign with a $10 budget has almost spent the lot. Currently it's showing a total of 80 cents for the day. That's some lag.

What does it show for impressions? I'm curious if the impressions are lagging too, or only the clicks and (hopefully) sales.

Update: All advertising systems are operating normally after yesterday’s delays. We estimate that primary metrics (e.g., impression, clicks, spend, and purchases) will be up to date by 11:00 in the morning pacific time. We will provide an update on remaining metrics by 11:30 in the morning pacific time.

Everything was lagging, but it's back to normal now.

I have AMS email me the relevant reports after close of each day, and of course yesterday they had less than half the data. Just re-ran them now.

By the way, they finally got back to me about my rejected brand ads and the 'missing logo'.  They said the logo I was using didn't represent me or my books. I replied that the logo I'm using is for 'Bowman Press' (my imprint) and it's in the top-left corner of every one of my 60+ published titles...

My metrics on AMS seem frozen. I wrote them all down so if I can check them tomorrow.
