Any way to stack promotions outside the US?
« on: May 20, 2021, 08:51:33 AM »
Rather against my better judgment, I just accepted a non-US Bookbub promotion and it is on very short notice, scheduled for June 7.

One of the reasons I don't usually accept these is that I know no way of stacking promotions for outside the US. Does anyone know of any advertisers worth using for Australia, India, Canada, and the UK (or even any one of those?)

Thanks.

Book Runes is known for international. It's been hit or miss with them for me. Ebook Deals is another one that features in the UK specifically--very affordable, but questionable results. Ebookaroo is Patty Jansen's free promo service and mainly serves Australia and European markets--very effective and affordable.

Still, my best method of international sales is through Bookbub itself through use of their ads. So you could push sales through ads.

Good luck with your promotion!

Edit} I recall one more free site for the UK you can try: Bookangel

Thanks! I'll check those out.

My concern about running a BB ad during a BB promo is that the same people will see both. I want to widen the reach rather than reach the same people again. I may be thinking about it wrong though.

ETA: Do you have a link to Ebook Deals? I am having no luck searching on that I'm afraid.

I think BB ads bolster the promo push but, you know, there's no way to know if the ad goes direct to sales. You might benefit from the book showing more than once like TV commercials, but the cost is something to think about. The BB itself is costing a pretty penny, right?

You could always do an ad push before and after the specific day of the promo directing the ads direct to international countries ?? I often throw BB ads out there for $5-10/day during promos. I think I had more sales with the tail of a BB promo once because of it.

Thanks for the link. A BB ad is something to think about maybe extending the tail of the promo. I'll give it some thought.

Compared to the cost of a US promo the cost of the int'l is pretty small, only a couple of hundred dollars. Generally speaking, my historical novels sell somewhat well in the UK, which is to say get some sales. Nothing to get rich on. The same with Australia, NZ and Canada where there are enough people with Scottish roots to have an interest in Scottish history so with sell-through to the rest of the trilogy, I have a good chance of at least having some ROI.

I shy away from advertisers that don't have a historical fiction-specific list since it messes up the Also Bought list, but for Int'l I probably have to ignore that.

Please report back on those international promotion newsletters. If I ever get another international BookBub, I'll want to try them.

And while we're on that topic, does anyone actually visit a promotion site itself voluntarily to look for deals? Lots of the newsletters say they'll feature your book on their site, but who goes there?

I sometimes go to Bookbub to look for deals so it is possible, but I'm not sure if it would be worth paying extra for.

So far the only one I've actually booked is Ebook Deals. I'll post how it goes.

I checked out those international deal sites. Most don't look likely; Book Runes doesn't even offer women's fiction as a category.

I don't know whether it is still going, but you could try the UKKUF - UK Kindle Users' Forum.
Back when it first started - over a decade ago - it used to be the go-to place for all things Kindle, and a lot of (mostly) UK writers. Now, since the site's founder is largely absent, it has become pretty moribund.

Ditto, Book Hippo.  If I hear of any new(er) ones, I'll let you know. As a Brit, I could do with them myself.

Book Hippo has been down for the last two years. Had to comment on that because it's too bad. I mourn the loss of that site as well as Booktastic.

I think, other than ads as I said above, the best plan of attack might be to just lower the price in the US market as well as the international markets and then use promo companies like ENT/Bargain Booksy that push intl sales as well as US.

But all this does hint at a market need for better international promo companies (for those of you lurkers out there).

There are certain enough int'l sales to justify int'l lists and promotions. Why no one is doing this baffles me.
