Amazon ad debt written off.
« on: February 27, 2022, 11:05:03 PM »
the story is that last August I ran a few ams ads. Those ads were never paid for and ams don't bother reminding users that they owe money. Anyway, I went into my account to see how much was owing so I could pay it and start some ads and I find the message $136 written off.

I'm surprised and amazed and think they're having me on. Has this happened to anyone else?

You're in the UK, right? In the U.S. if it gets written off you get an income tax bill for the amount as earned income. As for the rest, no experience.

Thanks. I use the .com site if that makes any difference. I still haven't worked out how to do amazon ads anywhere else. I suppose I'll see what happens.  :dog1:

When I set up my AMS account, I had to put in a payment method (namely a credit card) to even get started with ads. I was charged a small amount - I think this was to see if the card was good - and after that I received an invoice at the end of the month and my credit card was charged. I'm in Canada. I run ads in .COM and .CA.

Yes, they've got a payment card, but I have changed banks since setting that up. I can easily set up a new card, but I don't understand the written off part. Thanks.

They wrote it off as an uncollected debt. I assume Amazon has a time frame for collecting debt and a threshold, probably a year and under $500, before they write it off as a loss. Once they write it off as a loss in their books, they can't recoup that money. However, they might take a more strict approach in collecting money owed in the future.

Let's see if they let me post some more ads. Thank you.

How did you even run ads without having a payment method in there. Amazon wont run ads for me without a credit card on file. It charges me automatically at certain thresholds or on certain days.

As I said, I had a debit card on file, but I changed banks so it didn't work.
