Has anyone heard of Reader House interviews?
« on: February 14, 2024, 01:24:54 AM »
I was emailed with an offer to get an interview through Reader House. I'm worried about another spamming thing here. Has anyone heard of this magazine and its author interviews? https://readershouse.co.uk/

A very quick google search indicated that they might be a vanity press kind of thing, so...   :shrug

A better platform would be literally anyone you know with a YouTube channel; and have them interview you, or talk or whatever. Can you imagine how much cross-promotion a handful of us here could do if we had YouTube channels?

I have one, but couldn't keep up with adding new content, as that's just not me. So it's dormant now.

What we could look at is setting up some sort of regular zoom panel which gets put in everyone's YT account. Just needs a theme and someone to run the zoom end.
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

I have a YouTube channel too. It's been used for trailers. I'm open to using it for other things too.

But... no one's heard of Reader House? They contacted me but haven't given me much info yet. I've emailed them back to hear further.

Was it a direct contact? Or just a spam which looks like direct contact?

Direct contact. I'm waiting for an email back. I was wondering if anyone else here's ever been contacted? It's a magazine company based in the UK.

They're offering to feature a book and interview. There's no fee, so I'll probably go with it. Nothing wrong with the honor and extra publicity, I'm thinking. I'm just jaded with so many email spammers these days. I'll write back here regarding any info I gather about Reader's House in the future.

If the opportunity is free, go for it. If it costs something, say no thanks.

From what little I can see on the internet, there's some negative speculation, but not a whole lot of factual info.

On the YouTube thing, I too have a dormant channel. I could use it for cross promotion, but, if I'm being honest, I doubt it has much of a following anymore.

Humorous side note: One time, someone wanted me to come to Florida to be interviewed on his YouTube channel--which had three subscribers. (No, really, that's all it had!) I said no thanks and laughed for a long time after.

And yet many of us have given away books for one reason or another.

An online magazine might just be looking for content. That would cost some time for an interview or whatever, but it isn't necessarily sinister. But if one has to pay directly the privilege? That's a lot more suspect.

Long ago, didn't BookBub ask authors to put a book in their newsletter?
