My Bookbub experiment failed ... kind of.

I'm thinking out loud here ... appreciate any insight anybody has to offer.
The Bookbub ad didn't really "fail", it just performed exactly how I suspected. The title is historical fiction, WW2 love story, has 600+ ratings/reviews for an average of 4.4 (so it's doing okay) and I kept it full price at $5.95. After two weeks and about 180 clicks (which I know is a very small sample) I got no bites.
Bookbub folks are after heavily discounted and free books, I know, but I was curious to see if the book's reasonable track record might entice a few buyers. I don't want to go down the discount road because it's standalone and ROI is almost impossible if you have a competitive CPC bid.
In the meantime, I paused my FB ads because ROI was in the black but slowly falling, and now I'm still hanging off on rebooting them until the book's audiobook version finally appears on Audible and I can really push the audiobook availability.
That could still be weeks, and I'm tempted to bash my head on the AMS ads wall yet again. I've never made them work, and I always regret the effort, but apparently they can work if you get it right.
The thing about FB and AMS is that you're advertising to potential KU readers as well, whereas I doubt BB reaches t7hem - although of course lots of BB subscribers are probably KU members too.
Lots of thumb-twiddling and head scratching here ...

What was your CTR %. You want to average around 2% or more.

It averaged around 1.7% with occasional spikes above 2%. Not great...

I'm probably closer to 1.5% over the past 2 weeks too. It's been a tough month for sales for me. The same ads on BB usually range around 2-2.5%

I only advertise full price books. I tried 99c and free in the past but the payback was never worth it, even with series books. BB readers do buy boxed sets and books up to $4.99. My lead book is at $3.99 but I've also had some success with advertising my $9.99 boxed set recently.

Try a targeted branding strategy. The sooner you start, the sooner it will pay off.
