Found a novel way to advertise my book
« on: May 29, 2025, 01:25:48 AM »
Some time ago I posted about 'back to basics' and having the winning letter in a local magazine, which earned me a lot more than I am getting on Amazon.
A few weeks ago the winning letter in the same magazine was from someone extolling the virtues of taking a course in Public Speaking.
The magazine also offers a prize for their crossword puzzle competition, which is often a book.  I wrote to the magazine and offered them my book on Public Speaking. They were pleased to accept my offer and it is now featured in their latest magazine.  :)
It will be interesting to see if it results in any sales.

This is the sort of "creative advertising" that I haven't seen since Wayne Stinnett was advertising his book on a radio station all those years ago.

Well done, Jan.   :cheers

I was recently featured in my local newspaper: https://thedanielislandnews.com/news/why-more-people-are-retiring-early-and-loving-it  The reporter had asked about retiring and I'd made a tongue-in-cheek response about stay-at-home moms never retiring. We had an interview and she asked for several pictures and I'm happy she chose one where I showcase my books. It's fun to be a celebrity for 5 min and I hope some people are curious enough to read my books (they're at the library so they don't even have to buy a copy).

That's lovely :Tup2:.
I hope it brings in some sales. I always tell my local newspaper about any new books I've written as they are often looking for material. :)

I just made a recap of my trip where I was interviewed on the Journey Home program on my blog. Doing anything in the public spotlight, like speaking about the spiritual journey, also helps shine a spotlight on our books, even if we don't speak about them.

Well done  :Tup2:. Speaking is key to promoting your book, especially print copies.  :)

Thank you. The best ROI has been speaking for me.

Giving talks is the best way to sell print copies. Our local bookshop, in conjunction with the publishers, used to invite famous authors to launch their books at venues here. Being on the committee of our SA Writers' Circle I got invites to these events (the snacks were delicious :)) We had Wilbur Smith and Jeffrey Archer amongst others. Jeffrey Archer was quick to ask how many copies had been sold  :icon_rolleyes:. This was when I realised the value of being an accomplished public speaker and joined a public speaking club. Thirty years later it was also the reason why I published my book on public speaking hoping to help writers (and others) conquer their fear. I've given numerous talks at libraries, schools, Rotary clubs, gardening clubs, women's clubs etc. People like to buy autographed copies. I've also done radio interviews.
