I have no idea what you're talking about.  But I've also been lobotomized by the theme change, so take that into account.  So much red...

I think it's nothing toworry about. It's just wordpress trying to roll in something like Joomla has with YouTheme, and other such things on various platforms. If if works, is easy, and lifts the bar for design standards of wordpress sites without charging us all to use it, then sweet!

Seems like they're changing the editing options? I must say, anytime anyone tells me that something will be my "new best friend" my hackles rise. But it looks like it might be fine.

They've now posted that as part of an announcement at the top of my Admin page, with an invitation to activate it now. No hint that I can de-activate it later. Hmmmm.... It will be the default with WP 5.0, with the current editor as a plugin.

The future, it just keeps coming at ya!

I was comforted by the option to retain the current editing process as a plugin.

I'm also concerned about the issue Ilamont raises, but hopefully at least the major theme and plugin developers are already working on Gutenberg-friendly versions. My theme at least seems to have an update at least once a week, and most plugins I use update at least once a month, so it's clear the developers are not asleep.

That's my concern as well. There are already wonderful themes and plugins that allow drag and drop and a lot more... I don't know. But then, it says you could switch back to classic. We'll have to see.

Go to Wordpress.org. There isn't that much difference. Is Gutenberg coming to Wordpress.com as well? That makes a lot of sense, since you can't use builder plugins or themes. It makes a lot of sense to have an easier experience with Wordpress.com. They're losing to Wix, Weebly, and Squarespace. Oh, well, I think for websites they'll keep losing, but they're blogging platform is more powerful.

I had a self-hosted site and it was just too much work for the minimal site I'm running. Constant updates, and then it got hacked twice. I'm pretty sure by intent by my hosting company so they could upsell me on a protection plan. I actually like WP dot com for the quiet simplicity of the management side of it. I understand that's not for everyone.

Yeah, it looks like we will be the first to enjoy the new experience of Gutenberg whether we want to or not.
