Fan Girl

Do you ever have the desire to jump up and down and ask someone you met here a million questions? The other day I noticed a writer that I read is part of this forum and posting.    I'm really trying not to fan girl but just a heads up if one of my favorite authors join no promises.

I was soooo tempted to have a fangirl/boy moment when I found one of my current favorite authors posted regularly. I almost had a heart attack when not only did he agree with my post, but he'd read one of my works and said he liked it. I've since moved on, but I still get the warm fuzzies when I think of it.

Oh yes!!! And it's so wonderful when they've read something you wrote too and liked it! But just rubbing shoulders with people you admire feels like pixie dust being sprinkled.

Many years ago, I wrote a paper as an undergraduate in which I refuted the theories of an academic I greatly admired. Fast forward to a later date (still many years ago - I'm getting old you see...) when I was visiting a university in another state and saw that familiar name on a door. I knocked and introduced myself, to which the academic replied "Yes, I know who you are, I am quite familiar with your work." Turns out academic circles can be small, and he had of course read that paper. Turns out he liked it and an interesting discussion was had accordingly.

I was a fanboy of a singer. Several years later, circumstances brought us together and we worked on several projects together. Today, I am not only a fanboy but also a friend.

It happens. It usually starts as a reverence for royalty, but when you meet with your idol and see that he/she is truly admirable, it turns into something else entirely. Nothing creepy. Really.

I have never been one to come over all starstruck and always thought, what's the big deal, they're just somebody who did X Y or Z. Anyhow. I was quite involved with a certain music scene many moons ago and released quite a few tracks which did quite well in that scene. Cut a long story short, there I am on this music forum many years later and who's on there but one of the record producers who I sampled a little from...I don't want to embarrass myself too much but let's say I didn't scream but I certainly got a buzz from talking to him, which turned into a total high when he talked about my tracks and the one with the sample of him in it. We talked quite often after that.
Of course, now I don't smirk when people talk about being a fan girl/boy...how could I?
All I would say to a fanboy/girl is...Enjoy the buzz

IMHO most professors like it when you tell them they are wrong. Especially when they can get a lively logical debate. I'm pretty sure thats like a drug for them.
